About Us

Our journey began in the spring of 2009, with the inspirational thought of returning to the country. The clean country life we both experienced as children was an experience that we wanted to give to our own children. Our search ranged from the beautiful green rolling hills of South Gippsland to the volcanic soils surrounding Ballarat.  Our search area included the regions where we both grew up Whittlesea and Seymour; I was drawn to a listing of 74 acres 10 minutes north of Kilmore.  As you can see from the photographs, the view from our front gate was breath-taking, the rolling hills of the Tallarook ranges combined with the green pastures of the central Victorian uplands.

When Whitegate Farm was purchased the property consisted of 2 paddocks with one dam.  Over the past three years we have expanded the number of paddocks to nine, providing water points to each. Added another dam and planted in excess of 2600 native trees.  It was identified that a laneway situated next to the highway was in need of rehabilitation; this area was devoid of grass and was susceptible to erosion.  This was the first area that we addressed, cattle have been excluded from this area since purchasing the property, and the regeneration of native grasses and shrubs has been extraordinary.  We intend to plant another 2000 native trees to complete the re-vegetation of the property ensuring that a balance is restored to the ecosystem.
